- Marek Kwiek was awarded 110.000 EUR grant to participate in an ESF (European Science Foundation) EUROCORES- EUROHESC research project "The Academic Profession in Europe: Responses to Societal Challenges" (EUROAC, 2009-2012). - Piotr W. Juchacz, Dominik Antonowicz and Adriana Golebiewska participated in the Oslo seminar (Norway), within NORPOL Polish-Norwegian research project coordinated by CPPS (January 2010). - Marek Kwiek and Piotr W. Juchacz participated in a kick-off meeting of a WORKABLE 7 FP research project in Bielefeld, Germany (November).
- The Center (represented by Marek Kwiek and Piotr W. Juchacz) became a partner in an EU 7th Framework Programme project WORKABLE, /Making Capabilities Work/ (2009-2012), a large-scale collaborative research project, coordinated by Professor Hans-Uwe Otto from Bielefeld University, Germany (October). - Marek Kwiek became one of principal authors of a new "Strategy for Polish Higher Education until 2020", as an expert in the consortium of Ernst and Young (consulting) and IBNGR (think tank) working for the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. - The Center hold the first seminar in the Polish-Norwegian research project NORPOL (September). Presentations are here.
- Marek Kwiek, with Professor Peter Maassen of Oslo University, received a two-year research grant from EEA Grants/Norway Grants for the project: NORPOL - Polish Higher Education and the European Higher Education and Research Areas. Comparative Analysis and the Transfer of Good Practices (2009-2011). The Polish team includes also Dr. Piotr W. Juchacz, Dr. Dominik Antonowicz and Adriana Golebiewska, MA (March). a General Rapporteur at the conference "Bologna
2020: Unlocking Europe's Potential" May 18-20, University of Ghent, Belgium,

Unlocking Europe's Potential conference in the Flemish Ministry for Work, Education

- Marek Kwiek took
part in a global Fulbright New Century Scholars seminar (led
by D. Bruce Johnstone) in Washington DC (USA) and led a panel
discussion on The
Need to Address the Imperative of More Equitable Access to Higher Education at the National Press Club, co-hosted by the World Bank. He also
presented his paper on "The Many Faces of Privatization in Polish Higher Education:

- Marek Kwiek has
started a new short-term comparative research project on the future
of European higher education: European Higher
Education 2010-2020, funded
by the Flemish Ministry for Work, Education and Culture (November

for Public Policy represented by Marek Kwiek, in collaboration with Poznan
School of Banking (WSB), represented by Dr. Krzysztof Bondyra (WSB/UAM)
has got a contract to work on the project linking higher education
and the labor market: "The Prognosis of
the Labor Demand and Supply in the Poznan Area" (LABOR-EDU), for the local authorities

State University of New York at Buffalo (USA) in March 2007 and in another
NCS seminar in Mexico City (Mexico) in September 2007, with a presentation
on equitable access to higher education in transition economies.

Fulbright "New Century Scholar" 2007-2008 ("Higher Education in the
21st Century"), to work on the project "Inhibitors to Equity of Access to
Higher Education in the European Transition Countries" at Poznan University
and Stanford University (USA).

- The Center
for Public Policy became a partner to a 6th Framework Programme of the European
Union project - a 1 million EUR STREP (Strategic Targeted Research
or Innovation Project) EUEREK - "European
Universities for Entrepreneurship - Their Role in the Europe of Knowledge",
a seven-country comparative research project on academic entrepreneurialism,
coordinated by Professors Michael Shattock and Gareth Williams of the Institute
of Education, London, the UK (2004-2007). This project will look at
the internal workings of universities, and how their respective national
planning and funding arrangements affect them. It will seek to identify steps
that can be taken to improve their effectiveness as knowledge producers and
as knowledge transmitters in Europe today and in the future. See www.euerek.info
